Online entries for the NSSF's Great American Cross-Country Festival (GACC) are pouring in and we expect an escalation in both numbers and competition for the October 1-2 event. The GACC offers a unique experience of exciting cross-country competition amid a festival atmospher complete with clowns, music, face painters, stilt walkers and other entertainment. As one of the season's earliest premier cross-country events, the GACC is an excellent testing ground for runners at both the collegiate and high school levels.
Highlight races this year will be the Race of Champions. Saratoga girls and Brookwood boys took top honors in the high school division last year, while Duke and the University of Maryland won the college division.
The Shumake Family Foundation Historically Black College and University Challenge returns with high expectations that well over two dozen teams will line up at the start to vie for the Challenge Cup and and take the bragging rights away from last year's double winner, Norfolk State.
Sponsored in part by Nike, the GACC is held on the same course in Cary, NC as the Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional Championships and the 2010 NCAA Division II Atlantic Coast Regionals. Many say that this well seasoned course is one of the best in the country!
There are divisions for all athletes: college/university, championship, seeded, varsity, junior varsity, freshman and open.
