4:00 pm. We will add a couple of relays that are different from our regular events, and we are dropping the 3200 meter run. Please let me know ASAP if your team is interested, and I will forward the entry forms to you. Times, heights, and distances will count for state qualifying; however, some added events are not ones that we normally contest at indoor meets. We will have the 4x200, the Thowers 4x100 (limited only to "throwers"), and long jump and shot put relays (adding together the 3 best efforts on each team and basing the score on the combined distances). We may invent others!
The purpose of the Reindeer Games is to help provide food for the needy over the holiday season. An "entry fee" of one (1) can of food per athlete (or $2) will be collected. Spectators will also be "charged" 1 can of food for admission or $5. The food will be turned over to the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry. At the last Reindeer Games, we collected over 1300 cans for distribution to those in need of assistance. This year, we will recognize the school that provides the most with a special award. Come and join in the Reindeer Games! Wear something to celebrate the season. The uniform rule will be somewhat relaxed. Wear antlers, a Santa hat, be an elf or be more creative. We do ask that you do not wear anything that could cause an injury or interference. We will use FAT; however, we will allow up to five (5) athletes per event. The deadline for entries is Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012. Return your entries to sharding@polkschools.org. If you are interested in participating, contact me at 828.817.1594, fax me at 828.894.2093, or email me at apeoples@polkschools.org, or silverfishltd@windstream.net.

Saturday - March 9, 2013 ... Weddington Track & Field Invitational (Weddington HS, Matthews, NC)
Address: 4901 Monroe-Weddington Road, Matthews, NC. Map. We had our track & runways resurfaced this past Summer & got new PV mats in the Spring. We've wanted to host an invitational, but never had the facilities for it. Now we're ready. There are traditionally no other invitationals in our area that weekend and we would like to provide a well-run, competitive early season meet with a couple of non-standard events thrown in for fun. Notice the 200m, 800m & 4x200 have been taken out to make room for SMR & DMR.
There will be more details to follow, but I wanted to give you the basics:
FAT Timing. Order of Track Events: Distance Medley Relay (400, 800, 1200, 1600), 100m Prelims, 100/110HH Prelims, 3200m, Sprint Medley Relay (100, 100, 200, 400), 30 Minute Break, 4x800, 100m finals, 100/110H finals, 400m timed finals, 1600m, 4x100, 300H timed finals, 4x400. All standard field events will be contested.
Teams are limited to 3 entries/event, except only 2 in the 3200m. There will be no entry standards for any event, as the meet is very early in the season. Please use your judgement. Is an invitational the best place to have your 16:00 girl run the 3200 or to try out someone in the pole vault? $100 per team ($50 boys/$50 girls), $5/spectator.
The inaugural event will be capped at 20 teams and we expect it to fill easily. Please let me know if you're planning on coming & we'll save a spot for you. As of today, our confirmed teams are: Cardinal Gibbons, Charlotte Catholic, Charlotte Country Day, Charlotte Latin, Hickory Ridge, Lake Norman Charter School, Monroe, Piedmont, Providence Day, Weddington. There are also a few "maybes" but I'll fill the 20 spots with teams who give me firm commitments. Contact: Rick Spencer, coachspencer@gmail.com.

Due to a cool spring and an extended Spring Break MTHS will be hosting a competitive last chance meet to be used as tune up or one last chance for a PR for your JV athletes.
Meet will be F.A.T.  We will contest all Field Events. Relays will include 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m and the DMR. Running events will be the 100m/110m hurdles, 100m, 200, 400m, Mile, and 3200m events. The meet will be held in a quick and compact format of 3-3.5hrs. All events will be timed finals. Cost is $50 per school (unlimited entries) and is also open to individuals and partial teams for $5 per entry and $10 per relay. We currently have 8 teams that will be attending. Entry will be on-line at NCRunners.com and will close on April, 24th at midnight. Mount Tabor has a one year old 6 lane all weather track with multiple jump pits and great field event facilities all located within the stadium. Questions? Please contact Patrick Cromwell at TaborXC@Yahoo.com

Saturday - April 27, 2013 ... 3rd Annual Buccaneer Classic Relays (Charlotte Country Day School, Charlotte, NC) This meet is a typical relay meet with 4 individual showcase races. The 100m, 400m, 1600m and the rarely contested 400m intermediate Hurdles. We will limit the number of entries in the individual events (100mDash, 400m Dash, 1600m run and 400mIH). We will have a limited number of entries for the 100-400-400IH (either 16 entries - 2 heats or 24 entries - 3 heats) and a max of 32 for the 1600 (2 heats of 16). Coaches must use entry times that are verifiable from the 2013 season. (If not already posted online at NCrunners.com or athletic.net then send verification to Joe Vignolini: joe.vignolini@charlottecountryday.org). For the 400m IH please use the 300mIH times as entry times. All entries in the 1600 must meet the minimum qualifying time of 5:30 for the boys and 6:30 for the girls. Depending upon number of entries teams may be limited to 3 entries per individual event. But ideally we have the best athletes on the track for these events. The entry fee will be the lesser of $65 per team (boys and girls count separately) or $15 per individual relay team entry and $10 per individual entry. There is a max of 25 teams. Register at Athletic.net. If you wish to attend and go to the athletic.net link to add your team to the list by April 1st. Also email Coach Vignolini. There is a max of 25 teams. Last year was a great year and we hope to build on it with more awards and competition.

Thursday - May 2, 2013 ... Last Chance Meet - 2A/4A schools (North Lincoln HS)
The goal of the meet is to have the kids from split conferences compete in a meet with a strong field of regional and close to regional qualifiers to keep their competitive edge during the 2 1/2 weeks between conference and regionals. 8 lane rubber track. Any 2A/4A teams that are interested in attending need to contact: Coach Lonnie Custer (acuster@lcsnc.org) 704 736 1860 ext 25210. 5 schools have committed as of 4/24/13.

Saturday - May 4, 2013 ... The High Country Track & Field Classic (Watauga HS, Boone, NC)
For some teams this will be a great meet because of an early conference meet. For others it will be the last chance for qualifying for regionals. Bring individuals or whole teams. Bring athletes trying to qualify or just needing a tue-up race. Even bring your young athletes who just need to compete.
Watauga High has beautiful facilities with an 8 lane rubberized track and all field events inside the stadium. We have ample space for tents and plenty of warm-up areas. There will be a concession stand and plenty of restrooms. Meet management is extremely efficient and experienced, and includes former directors of the Taco Bell Invitational and Raleigh Relays. We will get the meet finished early enough for you to get your entries in to milesplit for regionals.
Field events will begin at 10:00am and running events at 11:00. An exact time schedule will be added after entries are received. Prelims will be run in the 100's and 100/110 hurdles. All other events will be direct finals in sections. We will also have middle school events in HJ, LJ, SP, 100, 400, 1600, 4x100.
Entries will be done online at ncrunners.com and must be done by Wednesday May 1. Entry fee is $45 for a team or $75 for both boys and girls teams. Any team with four or fewer athletes may enter at $10 per athlete. Checks can be made out to Watauga Track and sent to Randy McDonough at Watauga High or brought to packet pick-up.
